EU Petition Regarding the Importance of Animal Insulin

A diabetic in Germany recently submitted a petition to the EU regarding the importance of animal insulin and why it should still be manufactured because it is still needed by certain diabetics who suffer adverse effects from the genetech “human” insulin.

The petition requests that the Parliament make efforts to ensure that animal insulin is still available all over Europe. A German manufacturer has already submitted an application to produce the insulin.

Although the EU has rejected the petition, it comes to the following conclusion:
“Animal-derived insulin is currently authorised in two Member States* according to the information available to the Commission. If this product is needed to treat patients in other Member States, national authorities may rely on the mechanisms foreseen in the legislation to make them available.”

You can find the full text of the petition (in several languages) under Number 27 at the following link.
