Novo Nordisk withdraws animal insulins worldwide
Novo Nordisk has ceased the production of animal insulin (December 2005). Semilente, the most important and widely used animal insulin of Novo Nordisk, will only be available until April 2007. CP Pharma Switzerland is the only provider of animal insulin in Switzerland.
Worldwide Decision
According to the available information, Novo’s production of animal insulins has ceased worldwide. The diabetics’ organizations have been informed by NOVO Nordisk, who have stated that there is still insulin left fo the time being.
The withdrawn products
Novo Nordisk has informed the public of the expiration dates (= dates until still available)of the following products:
- Ultratard HM, Monotard HM, Semilente MC (April 2007)
- Actrapid MC suis (October 2007)
- Insulatard MC suis (February 2008)
- Mixtard 30 MC suis (March 2008)
The FIS committee is working on possible strategies, which include international contacts, cooperation with other manufacturers and government bodies.
